Corsica & Sardinia

Tuscany on the Caribbean

Our daughter had her sites set on the South of France  in July but I just couldn't bear the thought of spending $600/night for a 3 star hotel in an overcrowded town. I asked her "why the South of France" and her reply, "beaches and water clarity/color". My friend Google quickly gave me multiple results for "best beaches in France" in an area I had only read about in the Ancient Civilizations portion of my college History course 30+ years ago - Corsica. After looking at google maps I realized Sardinia was just a ferry ride away from the south of Corsica and we love Italy. After convincing my daughter we didn't need to set foot in the mainland of France (other than our layover enroute), Corsica and Sardinia was the plan. I was late planning the trip but I was able to use airline points to score a great redemption value to get us there. I couldn't seem to find the time to research and plan, which worked out fine because the family decided they wanted more of a "wing it" type adventure. This of course goes against every grain in my fiber, but I must say, those adventures can be equally as gratifying as the planned out follow the itinerary vacations. We spent 10 days exploring the islands of Corsica and Sardinia and we were smitten. We took ferries, we dove one of the only B17 bomber plane dive sites in the world, we watched amazing sunsets while dining barefoot in the sand on amazing seafood, explored ancient cities (well I did - my family wasn't as enamored with ruins), hiked mountains, saw vineyards, drank amazing house wine and hired a private speedboat as well as sailboat. We didn't even scratch the surface. My husband and I can't wait to go back and explore even more without the kids.
